The lamp woman

Not just a show

“La donna lampada” is not simply a circus show but rather a surreal imagery; a source of inspiration for creative projects. Thanks to its aesthetics, the work on the donna lampada has allowed the birth of a relationship between contemporary circus, Friulian craftsmanship and a photographic experimentation project. “La donna lampada” initially came to life as a personal project after leaving the Flic circus school in Turin by artist Laia Picas Rodoreda. Already within the circus school, a collaboration with the artist Paolo Tonezzer began, allowing the work to continue and expand beyond the confines of the circus school, reaching realities further away from the world of contemporary circus that are inspired by the aesthetics of performance. Specifically, a dialogue began with the craftsman Michael Genovese, owner of Abat Jour Udine and, at the same time, with L. Ficetti and A. Ferretti, respectively a photographer and videomaker from Turin.

From this contact, the idea of a collaboration was born that goes beyond the simple creation of photographic services, but that allows a real contamination between the performative, artisanal and photographic components. The photoshoot is a source of mutual inspiration because just as "the lamp woman" becomes the protagonist of the photographic project, the photographer also has the power to influence the stylistic choices of the circus artist in the creation process: the photographic exhibition born from the photoshoot is a place of experimentation thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, a technology that allows the public to go beyond the image and into the proposed imaginary thanks to the augmented reality available on the spectators' smartphones. The show also has a very particular setting: in the same artistic product, the typical circus aesthetics are simultaneously found, suitable for a very heterogeneous audience, together with the provocation of the more adult and aware spectator on a philosophical theme: critical imagination.

In fact, the work takes as its starting point the text by the philosopher Marina Garcés (2022) "Imaginación Crítica" to propose a historical development in which imagination must play an important role as a social and collective practice to enable us to write the history we want. The woman is presented as a historical subject capable of transforming herself and moving the limits of the present to enrich the field of human possibilities. (Garcés, Marina. 2022. «Imaginación crítica». «Ecología de la imaginación». Artnodes, no. 29. UOC.).

“La donna lampada” is finally an ecosystem that together with the show, exhibition and artisan workshop also carries out a more symbolic and provocative action through the so-called “street guerrilla”. Before and after each performance, it is intended to leave a lampshade in the place where the show was held.

Show and traveling exhibition

Thanks to the contribution of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the project "La donna lampada" will visit various municipalities in the region with the aim of bringing the imaginary created by the artists who collaborated on the project to the small municipalities of the Friulian mountains. In each municipality, an exhibition area will be set up that will contain the works of Lucrezia Ficetti, photographer and visual artist, together with the creations of Alessio Ferreri, videomaker who has created imaginary worlds of lampshades using artificial intelligence. Finally, the circus performance will be staged with the artist Laia Picas Rodoreda. Below is the calendar of events:
