Machines all'inCirca

The show

What in fact unites circus art with Renaissance mechanical studies is the constant search for innovative solutions for the creation of works and artifacts. The Renaissance is also the culmination of a process of humanization of society, and it is from this epochal reflection that certain forms of entertainment that are ancestors of today's contemporary circus are born. Leonardo's man is man at the center. For this reason, artistic research follows the dual path of machine and man. Is man the master or slave of the machines that he himself produces? Is he at the center of the Universe or is it only his presumption that leads him to think of himself as a perfect machine?

Starting from this reflection, the Circo all'inCirca collective, exceptionally formed by artists from Chile, the Czech Republic, Piedmont, Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia, wanted to examine the theme of perpetual motion. A concept of physics and mechanics that easily borders on philosophical reflection on infinity. Is it possible for a machine to be autonomous forever? Evidently not, the first principle of thermodynamics clearly states it. Yet man has always stubbornly tried to build the perfect machine, resembling an alchemist or a circus artist who rebelliously challenges gravity. This is perhaps the best way to tell the story of genius, the desire to discover the impossible, the passion for the creative process that almost forgets the final goal. It is on this path that man risks replacing God, it is here that he discovers that he is the universal piece that connects the finite with the infinite.

With these ideas in their heads and the circus disciplines of hand-to-hand acrobatics, aerial rope, juggling and the Cyr wheel in their bodies, the circus artists, accompanied by a director and two musicians on stage, try to tell adults and children their interpretation of the Renaissance genius of Leonardo da Vinci.
