Christmas Message
Circo all'inCirca

A letter to say thank you

to all the Circo all'inCirca and to all its friends

The razor-sharp sting that the health emergency has planted in the flesh and lives of those who live for culture is very painful. Our activity is essentially made up of human relationships. If we reduce everything to the maximum, we remove the induced activities, the projects and the tours, what matters for artists, for teachers and for those who deal in various ways with producing, developing and spreading cultural experiences is simply this, relationships.

Have you ever felt the sensation of a painful sting that, strangely, brings attention to that part of the body that normally moves without any problem and that almost does not seem to exist to one's perception? That part of the body no longer moves as before and it seems incredible how easily it was used when it was well. So here we are, as we take stock of a year that will go down in history, trying to intensely remember the human relationships that we feed on to build our activities. Relationships that are at the beginning of every Circo all’inCirca project and that after several months of “new normality” seem absurdly simple and normal: shows, events, festivals, courses, educational projects… let’s not talk about social circus, because this last word is perhaps among the most problematic of 2020.

There is a force that Circo all’inCirca can count on and that Christmas brings to light. It is within the symbolism of the least bright night of the year that it becomes necessary and vital to reorganize one’s gaze. The darkest night of the year hosts the brightest experience in history. You don’t have to be a believer to understand that Christmas is a light in the darkness. It is the strength of human relationships, which do not die down even when the world seems to give in disastrously to the logic of the pandemic; it is within this way of thinking and experiencing the world that the group of artists, pedagogues and volunteers of Circo all’inCirca are telling their version of the facts. We have tried to stay close to those who in normal times allow us to create authentic relationships, those who trust us and participate in shows or follow courses and our activities. We have not done it by transferring to the web everything we normally do in person; but rather by trying to reflect the essence of our work to find alternative ways to continue existing; new ways to tell our vision of the world, our "break from normality". Numerous ideas, proposals and reflections were born within this way of experiencing the pandemic: remote circus, the adventures of maestro Max, the beer with the president, the circus in a box, the advent calendar of Circo all'inCirca and, lastly, the "mini-takeaway performances" that traveled throughout Friuli on December 20. We went from house to house with what we do best, entertaining. We realized once again that we are not alone in thinking and living like this. There are many people who believe in what we do, people we would like to thank personally because they show us once again that ours is not simply a nice activity to spend a few hours, but a game that transforms the lives of those who believe in it; a job that not only has the dignity of other jobs because it does much more: it tells that it is possible to live and think differently.

Thanks to everyone for the trust in Circo all’inCirca, thanks above all to the collaborators, teachers, children and students who continue to believe in this project. Merry Christmas.
