Contemporary Circus FVG

It was the beginning of 2019 and we had just lost our space in via Perugia, 1. For every door that closes, a door opens, says the old adage and along with it say the members of the board of this association. So we decide to quickly change the project already underway: the theater space that we should have created will instead be a circus tent. We, an independent reality, ultimately lack a place to propose ourselves in the Friuli territory, furthermore – we think – our cultural proposal is not made for "people who go to the theater", those are radical chic, we want to meet pure people, not used to frequenting theaters, we want to party and regenerate the people and communities we meet. A traveling circus tent seems perfect to us! At the end of the same year the purchase is made and the President, Irene, Viso, Mattia and Valentina are trained to assemble and manage the tent structure, we are ready to welcome our audience: we will wait for spring 2020, the 10 years of Circo all'inCirca. Saying it now seems trivial, but who would have expected that the world would get stuck in a pandemic! For every door... here comes to our aid the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, which with a far-sighted policy decides to support the restart of sports and cultural activities in the regional territory by giving us the opportunity to achieve what two years of pandemic seemed to have destroyed, a micro tour to promote our mobile theater, our style, the tent that we decided to name Maude. Why did we call it that? Obviously it is an old story, stuffed with anecdotes, that the president will gladly tell you if you offer him a beer during one of the hot summer days of 2022 along this tour.

From June 1st to 6th we will be in Cividale del Friuli where we will also organize our traditional "Festival Plausibile", that is, the shows of our youngest students. The Municipality of Cividale has immediately welcomed the project, which will also be an opportunity to promote the local activities of the library and the Podrecca International Center. From June 17th to 26th we will be at Parco Moretti in Udine, where we will program a series of shows, workshops and activities for families over the two weekends in collaboration with the "Terminal" festival. This event is also organized in collaboration with the Administration, the Municipality of Udine over the years has believed and invested in the activities of Circo all'inCirca for the enhancement of the territory and the city's public spaces. From July 15th to 30th we will be set up in Frisanco, in collaboration with the "Brocante" association and the local Municipal Administration, which was probably one of the first administrations to want the circus within its community in the 2000s and which still shows its appreciation of the cultural and economic value generated by the contemporary circus in Val Colvera. From August 22nd to 28th we will collaborate with the "Muja Buskers" festival, which like every year closes the summer circus events after Terminal and Brocante. From September 9th to 11th we will be set up in Nespoledo in collaboration with the "Villa Chazil" brewery, which last year discovered the contemporary circus thanks to our "Art at Play" project, while from September 15th to 18th we will finally be set up in the square of Palmanova, in collaboration with "BeT festival" and the flag-wavers of the five-star city.

Finally, during the summer we will collaborate with the associations "Bufeto" and "Mismo Nismo" from Ljubljana by organizing an afternoon of Italian and Slovenian shows in Nova Gorica, as a stage of approach to the celebrations of GO!25; an opportunity to meet new partners who, like us, work for the development of contemporary circus.

Seeing a tent set up in a garden where there was nothing before is always impressive, but the magic of the circus doesn't stop there. Our cultural proposal is not only what happens inside the mobile theatre space, but also and above all the connections that are created with the local communities. We want to meet people, make them an integral part of our team. Is there anyone in town who needs a stage where they can express their vision of the world? They should contact us because we want to organize a party evening together! No one knows how to do anything, not even tell a joke? No problem, the group of young people from the town can always give us a hand in setting up the space, as the guys from Premariacco here on the side did. In the meantime, the elderly are authorized and even welcome to take part in the assembly phases with their arms folded behind their backs..

Thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Culture and Sport Association, within the project "Circo Contemporaneo FVG" a course has been activated for aspiring aerial acrobatics instructors. It is a course created by the professionals of Circo all'inCirca at the end of which the AICIS sports promotion body, affiliated with CONI, will issue a qualification to teach aerial disciplines as a national technician. For those attending who pass the final exam it will therefore be possible to obtain the qualification to teach aerial fabrics, trapeze and hoop. More informations here.
